Privacy Policy
Version 2026-08-30 · Last updated August 30, 2026
This policy explains what Pairvella collects, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and how you can control it.
1. Data we collect
Account data: name, email, password (stored hashed by our authentication provider), birth date, and location details you provide (country, state or region, city, time zone, postal code).
Profile data: photos, bio, relationship intention, verification status, and membership tier.
Compatibility data: your questionnaire answers and the pillar scores derived from them.
Activity data: matches shown to you, lounge sessions, messages, likes, referrals, response times, and last login. Technical data: device and browser information, IP address, and error logs.
2. Why we use it
To operate your account and show you matches; to compute compatibility estimates and 'why you matched' explanations; to moderate photos and messages and enforce the Community Guidelines; to detect fraud, fake accounts, and referral abuse; to process memberships; to send service and inactivity notifications; and to improve the platform.
Automated processing: matching, compatibility scoring, responsiveness metrics, and inactivity pausing are automated. Enforcement decisions such as suspensions and bans involve a staff member, and you may appeal them in the app.
3. Legal bases
Where GDPR or similar law applies, we rely on: contract performance (running your account and matching), legitimate interests (safety, moderation, fraud prevention, product improvement), consent (optional communications and cookies that are not strictly necessary), and legal obligation (age assurance, record keeping, responses to lawful requests).
4. What other members see
Members you are matched with can see your first name, age, approved photos, bio, relationship intention, verification and responsiveness badges, and the location detail your privacy settings allow. Your email, exact birth date, postal code, and questionnaire answers are never shown to other members.
5. Who else can access data
Pairvella staff — support, moderation, admin, and owner roles — can access profile, violation, and message data to handle reports, appeals, and safety issues. Staff access to role-restricted actions is logged.
Service providers process data on our behalf: hosting and database, authentication, email delivery, payment processing, and AI providers used for compatibility narratives, conversation suggestions, and marketing copy. We do not sell your personal data.
6. Retention
Active account data is kept while your account exists. Profiles inactive for 14 days are hidden but not deleted. When you delete your account we remove your profile, photos, and questionnaire answers, and we retain a minimal record of bans, serious violations, and billing history where we have a legal or safety reason to do so.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live you may request access, correction, deletion, a portable copy, restriction of processing, or objection to processing based on legitimate interests, and you may withdraw consent at any time. Most of this is available directly in Settings; anything else can be requested through Help & Support. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
8. International transfers and security
Our infrastructure may process data outside your country. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. We protect data with encryption in transit, row-level database access controls, hashed credentials, signed URLs for photos, and role-based staff access.
9. Children
Pairvella is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from minors, and any account found to belong to a minor is deleted.
10. Changes and contact
We announce material changes in the app before they take effect. Privacy questions and rights requests go through Help & Support inside the app.
This policy reflects how the platform currently processes data. It is not legal advice; have a qualified privacy lawyer review it for each jurisdiction you operate in.
